Is faith dangerous to those who base their world view on it?
Regardless of your answer, please do yourself a favor and watch National Geographic Channel this evening starting at 7:00 PM
National Geographic Channel is airing “Inside A Cult” and “Inside A Cult: Messiah On Trial” this evening starting at 7:00 PM. It is an unprecedented look at a cult from the inside. It was filmed on and around the compound of the Strong City Cult AKA Lord Our Righteousness Church. You can also watch the full episode of “Inside a Cult” at the following link: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/videos/feeds/cv-seo/Full-Episodes/Inside/Inside-a-Cult-1.html
This is an excellent example of how faith is dangerous and why it should never be used. The same indoctrination techniques used in religions around the world are the exact same techniques that the figurehead of the cult, Michael Travesser used on his followers. It clearly illustrates how easily one can manipulate the mind of others and the inherent dangers of faith.
When you have faith for the right reason there’s rarely conflict between right and wrong. However those who would use their faith to answer unanswerable (often unnecessary) questions, does the confusion enter, hence you have those searching for more than a satisfying responsible Christian belief. That’s what I believe leads many to enter dark or unconventional areas, as if there must be more than what they know or need to know.
Using faith to answer an individuals world view is practically useless unless you are the leader of a country and have managed to hide your beliefs in favor of being at the head of the state, in a free society anyway. I couldn’t imagine the implication of someone thinking that their God is the only true God, while all others are false, then attempting to apply that to a common sense goal of satisfying your personal belief convincing others to think and believe you are the anointed one or the only one who is knowing.
While your question serves up some interesting thought, and lends itself well to non believers it doesn’t matter with respect to the longest running game in town; faith! If more people understood that little word, the world would be a much nicer place. And for all that had faith whether it was in their God, satan or simply agnosticism, we would understand that we have a place for mental peace in our mind for reflection of a simple days worth of events, nothing more nothing less. Of course their will always be those who have to take advantage of the snake oil, and that has been happening for centuries. Whether or not you believe, there will always be dangerous people ready to feed on the innocent no matter if it’s religious in nature or not. There will be those ready to take advantage of those who look but can not see. Those with dirty hands will continue to point their finger at the senses of the human experience trying to bend logic usually for profit.
In the end it’s not the danger of faith more than the danger of ignorance, and over thinking what’s natural, logical or good and what’s not. Some are simply bought by invisible intelligence and artificial thought that can be used to maneuver, convince, persuade and control.. It can happen to anyone, just because you say it’s righteous doesn’t make it so, someone has to believe it. Just my opinion:)
